Retile and Recoping
Normally when a retile only or a retile and recoping takes place the homeowner chooses to replaster with the swimming pool as well, if this is the case the procedures will be listed under replaster only. If not , the water in your swimming pool will be drained about half way down. The tile and coping or tile only will be removed manually. The tile and coping crew will then work upside down in a sense to install the new tile and coping. This is extremely difficult to do but it is possible, they are particularly careful so that they do not drop anything into the pool so that the existing plaster does not get damaged.
Replaster Only
First your pool will be prepped, this means that your pool will be drained completely and we will saw cut below the tile line, chip around the light, maindrains, and fittings. Next we will acid wash the entire pool with straight muriatic acid to etch the pool thoroughly, we will then thoroughly wash and rinse pool with soda ash. We will then roll the pool with bonding kote, this material acts as the rough surface of gunite. Finally we will apply two (2) coats of plaster, the first coat will seep into all the pores and fill the voids and the second will be the finishing coat.
Maintenance
After the filter system has been started the pool should be brushed at least twice (2) a day for the following ten (10) days. Plaster residue accumulates in all newly plastered pools and produces a cloudy appearance until it has been cleared by the filter systems. This is normal but the residue will harden and the surface will become extremely rough, if not brushed properly.
Keep all chemicals in balance at proper levels at all times. Be sure to check you water after a rainstorm, something this simple can cause your water to go out of balance. Staining and scale formations are not covered since mineral and improper chemical balance causes them, to help prevent them test your water once (1) a week and get a computer analysis every ninety (30) days. (Maintain your records)
